The Cabin, Boise Public Library, and the Boise City Department of Arts & History invite emerging and mid-career writers to apply for a six-month residency in Boise, Idaho.
The Boise City Writer-In-Residence is a six-month program designed to connect local writers to the community of Boise through literary-focused public programs and events hosted once a month.
The selected Residents will be responsible for developing and facilitating six (6) literary-focused public programs. These public programs may take the form of themed or open writing workshops, reading series, writing explorations, or other literary experiences. They will receive a $5,000.00 stipend to support their creative work and their time to develop these programs.
The goals of this Residency are three-fold:
- Support local emerging and mid-career writers in their creative practice.
- Provide free and accessible literary programs to the community.
- Raise awareness of the services and programs of The Cabin, the Boise Public Library, and the Boise City Department of Arts & History.
Application and Review:
Applications will be accepted via Submittable by the Boise City Department of Arts & History from June 23, 2025, to July 28, 2025. A panel of representatives from The Cabin, Boise Public Library, and the Boise City Department of Arts & History will review applications in August 2025. All applicants will be notified of their status in September 2025.
Residency Terms:
Applicants will select the date range(s) that are best for their proposal.
Term 1:
- October 1, 2025 - March 31, 2026
Term 2:
- April 1, 2026 - September 30, 2026
Supported Disciplines:
The Boise City Writer-In-Residence is open to writers of any form, medium, or genre.
Selection Criteria:
Selections will be made by a committee and based on the following:
- Strength of application
- Quality of work samples
- References
- Finalist Interview
Eligibility:
- Open to applicants who are legally able to work in the United States.
- Applicants must be able to pass a thorough background check.
- Applicants must be 18 or older.
